Belgian countertenor Logan Lopez Gonzalez is a versatile artist, equally at home in baroque, contemporary, and operatic repertoire. He is known for his communicative energy and a timbre that is both sensitive and luminous. His performances have been praised for their depth and intensity, with Opera Magazine stating, « As for Logan Lopez Gonzalez, no praise is high enough. (…) claiming this repertoire for the countertenor voice. »

A sought-after interpreter of baroque music, Logan collaborates regularly with ensembles such as Cappella Mediterranea, Concerto Soave, Il Groviglio, Le Concert Bourgeois, and the Orchestre Royal de l’Opéra de Versailles. At the same time, he is deeply engaged in contemporary music, having created roles in several world premieres, including Be My Superstar at LOD Muziektheater, Opera Vlaanderen, and Dutch National Opera, the title role in SOLAR, Icarus Burning at La Monnaie, the Wolf in Vasco Mendonça’s The Girl, the Hunter and the Wolf, and OGRES by Simon Voseček at the Prague National Theatre.

During the 2024/25 season, Logan takes on the role of Argone in Händel’s Sosarme at the Opéra Royal de Versailles and Speranza in Monteverdi’s Orfeo at the Opéra de Marseille. He also appears as a soloist in staged performances of Amour à mort at the Opéra National de Lorraine and Bach’s St John Passion at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. In concert, he performs Bach and Händel cantatas with Cappella Mediterranea and Leonardo García Alarcón at the Festival d’Ambronay, as well as a programme of Roman polyphony at the Chapelle Royale de Versailles, among others.

Logan also brings 555: Verlaine en prison to London for four performances at the Arcola Theatre. A production he co-created with director Eleanor Burke, the work is a queer exploration of the life of French poet Paul Verlaine. After its 2023 premiere at La Monnaie, they brought the production to the Royal Opera House in 2024. Following its London run at Grimeborn Opera Festival and the Arcola Theatre, Logan was nominated for Best Performance at the Off West End Theatre Awards (UK).

Highlights of the 2023/24 season included his debut at the Salzburger Osterfestspiele and the Opéra de Dijon in Bach’s St. John’s Passion in the acclaimed new production by Sasha Waltz and Leonardo García Alarcón, his debut at the National Theatre of Prague in the world premiere of Šimon Voseček opera OGRES, the role of Gloria in Vivaldi’s Gloria e Imeneo at the Théâtre de la Reine in Versailles, a concert tour to five Chinese cities with the Orchestra of the Opéra Royal de Versailles, Händel’s Messiah at the Namur Concert Hall, the creation of Amour à mort at La cité bleue in Geneva, and song recitals in Belgium and France with his pianist Stella Marie Lorenz.

Logan trained at the Conservatoire Royal de Mons and the Royal Academy of Music, before joining the National Opera Studio of the United Kingdom, La Monnaie/De Munt Academy, and the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme. He made his professional debut aged 21, performing Frantík and the Grasshopper in The Cunning Little Vixen at La Monnaie and Amore in L’Incoronazione di Poppea during the same season at Angers Nantes Opéra in a production by Moshe Leiser & Patrice Caurier.

His recording of Argante in Händel’s Rinaldo has just been released by Glossa Music. In future seasons, he looks forward to debuting in the title role of Händel’s Ottone in Switzerland and to bringing his production of 555: Verlaine en prison to new stages.
